Day 193

Trapped

Now that you can move you have been exploring much more of the house. Lately you have enjoyed crawling from the living room where all your toys are to Chloe's toy basket (taking out and playing with all her toys), then you move on to the kitchen taking out all the plastic containers and then you proceed down the hall to the gate that keeps you from falling down the stairs. You often sit there on your knees shaking the bars as if to say "get me outta here." I really do love that you can move...it is amusing for the whole family.

Day 192

Mmmm Milk

When you are done drinking you always throw your cup...it is actually really funny, you just sort of fling your cup over the edge of your high chair. Sometimes whatever is in the cup spills a bit and sometimes it spills A LOT! And today was one of those days where it spilled a lot. So when she was allowed back into the kitchen Chloe beelined it right to your spilled milk to sop it up...and now because you can crawl you wanted to check it out too, so you did. You crawled over to where Chloe was checking out your milk and literally grabbed her head and moved it away from the milk so you could get at it too.

Day 189

Breaking Out

Now that you are crawling around Mommy and Daddy need to be a bit more careful about leaving the doors and gates open. Today we were loading the groceries into the house, so we locked up the kitty so he didn't escape, but you were still roaming free. Good thing you didn't like the feel of the door mat, it acted as a barrier to keep you just inside the doorway or we wold have been in BIG trouble!!!

Day 188

Kitty

You love you Puppy!!! But you also love your Kitty too...he just doesn't get (or give) as much love so we don't talk about it as much. Today though Kitty ventured close enough for you to take notice and even touch him, if only for a few seconds. If only you'd realize you could chase him with that new crawling thing you learned...then he'd really be in trouble.

Day 186

Mommy and Me

Adeline, here is a picture of you and I from today. The most exciting part of today was watching you crawl around more than just a few 'steps.' It was so nice to be able to get some work done in the kitchen and have you get to where you wanted to be without needing to be the one to move you. You are becoming quite proficient at crawling (only when you want to do it ;) and also at getting yourself up on to you knees without using your hands.

Oh ya and you started signing puppy today...but rather than patting your leg, you pat your chest or belly or even my leg. It is just tooooo cute.

Here is proof that you have finally started crawling...not that you have done it for anyone other than Mommy yet.

I just love how your tongue sticks out when you are working hard! Daddy and I are soooo proud of you, you have been working so hard to crawl and now that hard work is paying off.

Day 182

Happy Canada Day!

We celebrated Canada's Birthday by going to a parade on Whyte Ave. It was called the Silly Summer Parade so we could not pass that up. You most enjoyed playing with your flags and watching the other kids watching the parade. You also like all the kids riding their bikes.

I didn't get a picture of it yet, but you totally did some crawling today...only about 3 "steps" but crawling none the less!!!!! YAY FOR YOU ADELINE!!! And you have mastered getting from your tummy to the sitting position, it is great because now when you are upset about being on your tummy (sometimes) you do something about it rather than whine and cry for me to help you. And you have started saying puppy and every so often baby (rather than Jack for babies now). And all this just before you cross the 11th month threshold. Great Work Adeline!

Day 171

Crawling...will it happen?

Adeline, you are a bit of a reluctant crawler. You had been getting up on your knees for weeks...and now, nothing. I am not really sure what to think about that. We have been doing some practicing though...I will prop you up on your knees, you will move your hands and I will move your knees and that seems to help you get the general movements down...so much so that today I propped you up and you moved you hands and knees (not very far, but you are getting the idea). As you can see from the picture above, I was just not quick enough on the draw to actually get a shot of you in the crawling position...but you are on you tummy, so that has to count for something, because as soon as you drop off you knees and onto your hands and tummy you scream bloody murder for someone to change your positon. We are hoping that crawling is happens some time before your first birthday!

Day 152

And We Have Lift-Off

Wowzers Adeline! You have become so good at getting up onto your knees in such a short period of time. It fees like just the day before yesterday when you couldn't even get up onto your knees without pushing against something...oh wait that was just the day before yesterday. And today you were pushing up and you even walked you hands forward a bit (now your arms just need to coordinate with your legs). Everyone kept saying that you might not crawl, but I just kept telling them that you WOULD and I can see now that you will!

Also you were rolling up a storm today...really using rolling as a way to negotiate the obstacles of your toys. You were so excited when you made it all the way across the room right to your Mama, you could not stop laughing. Daddy calls you roly-poly-guacamole! Go Adeline Go! Keep up all the great work (we know you will not let us down ;)

Day 151

Smiley

Oh Sweetie, I really wish I had caught one of the 500 times you pulled up to you knees with my camera today. Today was the day you started pulling yourself up to your knees and rocking back and fourth...I spent so much time just watching and holding back my laughs (as to not distract you) of pure joy because of the amazingness I was witnessing.

But I didn't, what I did get this perfectly cute pic of you shopping at Costco. Whenever we are out and about everyone can't help but to comment about how cute, or smiley, or how happy you are. Someone today even said that your happiness as a baby MUST be a testament to my temperament as a mama...I told her that is soooo not true. That it is completely the other way around. I am a happy and smiley and joyful Mama because it is so easy when I am with you. Your happiness is just so contagious and not just for me and Dada, but everyone. People who have had the pleasure of being in your presence can't help but to smile!

Day 147

Almost Crawling

It looks like I'd been using the wrong motivation all along...apparently Adeline is into technology already. It seems that the whip has not been working...therefore I'll have to turn to the carrot. The MacBook is going to have to be making an appearance within Adeline's proximity, but out of her reach each and every day until she finally gets this whole crawling thing down.

Some other exciting news...

Adeline independently signed for more today!!! Without any visual or verbal prompting. We were both having some watermelon on the living room floor while watching Babies - a movie about 4 babies all from different parts of the world. Well, I was a little distracted by the TV when I was supposed to be feeding Adeline (something she surprisingly lets me do quite often, for being such an independent baby) and apparently Adeline wanted more watermelon and I did not get her arm and leg flailing or hip thrusting signals that she wanted more, so she touched the tips of her fingers together to indicate that she wanted more...and boy, oh boy did I ever give her more!!! We have been working on the sign for more for about a week, but usually I have to either move her hands, show her with my hands or ask her more, Adeline do you want more? But not this time!!! YAY it's so nice to know this whole sign language thing is clicking.

Day 123

It Won't Be Long Now

Just today Adeline got her knees up under her and has begun rocking a but...I am sure she will be crawling in the next week or week and a half! Exciting times in the Milligan house!

Helping With the Laundry

Adeline was having a lot of fun standing in front of the laundry basket and going through all the pieces of clothing.

Adeline Loves the Fish

Remember how Adeline used to say F-F-F for the word fish when looking at the fish tank...well today she looked right up at the fish tank and said ssshhh (see the video below for proof, you will have to listen carefully)...again it won't be long until she puts the f and the sh together!

Today was a BIG day

Adeline learned to bring her knees up under herself, she stood holding on to something independently, she said ssshhh (for fish) and then mimicked Daddy and said Da-da.
