Day 292

Tea and a Hat
Adeline has been asking to wear a hat on almost a daily basis.  She signs hat over and over and over until we give her one to wear and then she just happily wears it around the house.  It is so precious and strange considering I couldn't keep a hat on her head the first year of her life.  All that matters is that she's wearing it now...because the long, cold winter is on its way!

Day 274

Happy Baby
Teething must be on hold for now, because I seem to have my happy baby back.  YAY!!! She has really been enjoying going down to the basement lately.  I take the cushions off one of the chairs and put it on the floor in front of the chair (as a little step for her).  She gets up on to the chair and just jumps to her little hearts content.  As you can see she was having a great time ;)

Day 187

Sign Language
Daddy and I have been doing sign language with you since you were a VERY young baby, but it is just more recent that you have actually been signing back. Exciting are the days when you spontaneously sign something to communicate. Today was one of those days. As I was feeding you dinner and trying to make you laugh with a mouth full of food for a picture you all of a sudden told me you wanted more, and because I had the camera ready for the food filled mouth picture I also got to catch you signing.

The other really exciting sign you have been doing a lot lately is puppy...it is just tooooo cute.

Happy Baby
Here is another photo of you from today being your happy self...for at least the end of the day today ;)

Day 185

Hangin With Dad
This evening I was inside doing something and all I could hear was your infectious laugh! I just had to go outside to see what you were doing. You were having so much fun with your daddy! You two were getting the hoses all set up to water the grass and Daddy was making some silly noises and tickling you to make you laugh and you were having so much fun!!!

Day 154

Bracelet
Today you got some mail! It was what was supposed to be an anklet from Uncle Timmy...but apparently your ankles are a lot bigger than your uncle's estimation! But fortunately it fits perfectly as a bracelet! For the first 10 minutes all you wanted to do is play with it, try and rip it off and even try to eat it (no surprise there), but after that you didn't even notice it was there. It is abou the cutest baby bracelet that I ever did see! You are so happy every time you look at it, because it makes you think of your Uncle Timmy who you love very much!

Pow Wow
You went to your very frist Pow Wow this afternoon...and I do have to say you were a BIG fan! You absolutely loved it! You could not stop gyrating while sitting in my lap. You kept waving your arms and you had a beautiful, permanent smile pasted on your face. The drums were very LOUD (probably the loudest thing you have heard in your 10 months of life), but that didn't bother you. You loved watching the men and women dance and only stopped staring at their beautiful traditional regalia to look back to make sure I was watching too.

Day 146

Adeline has been involved with this program as the teacher at Windsor Park School for several months now. Our time participating in this unique program is coming to an end, so today we attended the Roots of Empathy Year End Celebration!
This was the very first time I saw Adeline a little overwhelmed by other kids. There were babies everywhere and many of them were sobbing because they wanted to be close to their mamas...but not Adeline. She was a little more leery than usual, but she was a champ, clapping along with the song and giving me a HUGE smile when she finally found me among the sea of other parents trying to get the attention of their little ones.
It was neat to see all the other parents and babies who have been involved with Roots of Empathy in and around Edmonton this past year...Adeline even got her own T-shirt...It says Roots of Empathy TEACHER - just like her mama and dada!

Day 68

Happy Baby, Really?
Adeline was a super happy baby for most of today. But the reason for my question mark at the end of the title is because she had her third round of shots today. And typically she is a little grouchy on those days...getting back at me for taking her to and making her get a needle (and sometimes multiple needles). Well today we went into the room where the shots take place, the nurse got everything ready, I held Adeline tightly, the needle went in, a second or two pass, Adeline whimpered a bit, needle came out and Adeline returned to her happy and possibly happier than usual self. Then during the 15 minutes the clinic requires you to wait around and do nothing (usually with a crying, whining, grumpy baby) Adeline proceded to coo and giggle and talk to anyone who will make eye contact with her and if no one was around she would talk to herself and play with her feet. It was a nice surprise to have such a pleasant baby after a traumatic experience.

Another fun thing that happened today: I watched Adeline play with her hands for a full 10 minutes today. She would shake them, watch them, clasp them for a little while while talking to them and then do it all over again. Then she proceded to look down at them and open and close them continually while intently eyeing them, then she would smack them on the ground a couple times and then do that all over again. She was so intense about it, it was a little scary ;)

Day 58

Adeline's Fish
We dismantled our 40gal fish tank today and decided to put the much, much smaller one (10gal) back up. And rather than having it in the dining room, where the BIG one was, we decided to put it in the living room; this way we will actually be able to enjoy it! Well Adeline is already a huge fan, as you may be able to tell from the intent gaze she is giving the tank in one photo and the big smile she is flashing in the other. I asked Adeline "Adeline, do you like the fish?" and I gave me that big smile...I'm gonna take that as a yes. I think the fish tank has replaced the computer visualizer as Adeline's favourite pass time.

The nightly bath dump ritual continues...Daddy is threatening short and sweet baths from now on if this doesn't stop...I just can't help but laugh.

Day 53

I Want Some of That...
While we were out and about this afternoon Mommy and Daddy needed to refuel, therefore we stopped at a randome asian restaurant and at some chicken, rice and vegetables and Adeline could not keep her eyes or hands off our water. She must have been a thirsty girl. She just kept staring at our water following it as it was lifted from the table to our mouthes and then back down. Every time we offered her a sip of the ice cold water she would accept with eagerness. I wish she would gain enough dexterity and strength to be able to control a cup herself, because she much prefers it over the sippy cup and that way I could concentrate on feeding and drinking my self rather than constantly holding a cup for my sweet, sweet little lady.

Day 51

Playing in Bed
Adeline has come to love the mobile that hangs above her crib. At first she was not so sure about it...she would watch it and listen to the music and try and grab the bugs that hang from it, but it didn't quite live up to her expectations of a really great toy. That is until she could actually reach the stuffed bugs that dangled above her, enticing her to reach out and touch them. It began when she could graze them with just the tips of her fingers and then every so often she would be able to grasp one of the lower hanging characters barley clutching it, but she would quickly lose her grip. Now she can tightly grab each and every bug and pull them down to her face for some good sucking and fling them around from side to side over her head. I am both happy and sad as I sit and watch her from the chair. Happy because I love to see her so excited and pleased and it is such a blessing that she is able to play by herself. Scared because I can see that at any moment one of these days she is going to tug so hard and fast that she rips a bug right off that mobile and that is going to be the end of Adeline's fun :(

Day 36

Happy Baby
Adeline had a great day today. She was happy and fun and playful all day. She even played all by herself for an hour and fifteen minutes while Mommy and Daddy did some basement cleaning. I was astonished! I didn't even know it was possible. She had some fun floor time, playing with her toys and then played in her jumper.
BTW take a look at Adeline's BIG teeth in the second pic ;)

Day 33

Enjoy the Day
Adeline and Mommy went out for a lovely winter walk again today! The weather was MUCH warmer than it has been and we wanted to take advantage of that! We met up with Heather and Mackenzie again and walked Whyte ave...we love it there so much because the sidewalks are cleared to the pavement and the they are wide enough for two strollers side-by-side (with room for others to get by). Adeline was all bundled up with tights on and everything...we walked, we drank (Adeline some milk and Mommy a Latte) and we walked some more (and this time Adeline slept). Again good times were had by all!!!

Cheerios
Adeline had her first taste of this kid friendly, favourite today. It was sooooo funny to watch. She had much difficulty picking up the bite sized snack, as she has not yet developed the pincer grasp. When she did happen to get one in her grasp and take it up to her mouth she did not yet know to let go of them when they got there...again, so funny!
Another thing to take note of is the mop of hair this child is accumulating on her head!!! Wowzers! If only it would grow places other than the top, front part of her head ;)

Day 23

Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed
Adeline's good days are usually determined by how she naps...well, today was a good day! I put her down in her bed and although it took her some time to get there, she fell asleep and remained that way for 1 hour and 40 minutes - which is a far cry from her usual 20-40 minute naps. When she gets enough sleep, Adeline is very nice to be around! She is happy and content. She plays well with others as well as by her self. Let's hope there are more to come!!!
Today was one of the happiest days I think Adeline has ever had I'm sure it doesn't hurt that the tooth she has been cutting for what feels like months has finally broken through. This is both exciting and depressing to us, as we know there are many more teeth to come and with them come those super fussy, no-sleep days.
