Day 59

Our Lonely Little Petunia

Kris got this pot along with a bag of soil as a birthday present this year and it has been sitting in our living room ever since...just waiting for me to put Adeline inside and take her picture. I thought this was going to have to be one of those quick and dirty photos...the ones that I have to take as quick as possible before my subject gets annoyed at what I am subjecting her to. This just was not the case today; it seemed like she actually enjoyed sitting inside the pot (contrary to what you may see in the above picture). She was just so darn excited it was hard to get a good shot. Case and point...she kept bouncing up and down on her bum and grabbing the sides with joy, it was tooooo cute, but like I said made it really hard to take the photo. I have a feeling we are going to revisit the pot on a much warmer day ;)

Day 58

Adeline's Fish

We dismantled our 40gal fish tank today and decided to put the much, much smaller one (10gal) back up. And rather than having it in the dining room, where the BIG one was, we decided to put it in the living room; this way we will actually be able to enjoy it! Well Adeline is already a huge fan, as you may be able to tell from the intent gaze she is giving the tank in one photo and the big smile she is flashing in the other. I asked Adeline "Adeline, do you like the fish?" and I gave me that big smile...I'm gonna take that as a yes. I think the fish tank has replaced the computer visualizer as Adeline's favourite pass time.

The nightly bath dump ritual continues...Daddy is threatening short and sweet baths from now on if this doesn't stop...I just can't help but laugh.

Day 57

Sharing Daddy's Breakfast

Adeline ate her Cinnamon Oatmeal breakfast this morning, and then decided she wanted some of Daddy's blueberry pancakes. And as you can tell she really enjoyed eating what Daddy was eating.

Update on the bath pooing: Yes she did do it again today, but at least it was just a small one this time.

Day 56

Swimming Fun

Adeline and I went to the rec centre with some of our mommy and baby friends today. We did some intense, but very fun strollercise and then we did a little swimming. Strollercise is where mama works out, following the leaders instructions while pushing baby in their stroller. Adeline quite enjoyed being pushed around the gym, she spent the entire time clapping her feet together as we circled around and around. After Mommy's work out, it was time for Adeline's. So we went to the pool. Adeline is always hesitant upon entering the pool, taking about 20 minutes before she is truly comfortable being in the open waters. But after that happens she kicks up a storm and splashes everyone with her flapping hands. Today we were introduced to the "Lazy River" a figure eight of enough current to push us through the water...thankfully the water is only a few feet deep ;)

Oh ya, Jack was wearing his new swimsuit today, a speedo, and Adeline likes it.

Day 55

Rockin But Still No Rollin...

Adeline still will not roll...try as I may, try as I might nothing I do makes her do the big R. What you see in the picture above is as far as she will go. I have enticed her with toys, fun noises, me and even the coveted kitty...but still nothing! I have concluded that she is never going to roll from back to belly...but at least she sits! Oh ya, and she still HATES tummy time and then again maybe it's just the teething.

Update: Adeline pooped in the bath AGAIN!!!! I am now under the impression she thinks that the bath is her personal toilet...maybe it's time to start potty training ;)

Day 54

Daddy Daughter Time

Adeline has a new favourite thing...to touch and eventually pull on Daddy's beard. She is infatuated with it...Mommy doesn't have one so that makes it fun and new and special and Adeline Loves it! And that makes Daddy so happy, because Mommy is not too fond of it.

By the way...Adeline pooped in the tub again, twice! No sooner did we clean the tub and fill it up so she could finish her bath did she do it again. Then Adeline got to have her first shower...we didn't want to risk putting her back in the bath for a third dump ;)

Day 53

I Want Some of That...

While we were out and about this afternoon Mommy and Daddy needed to refuel, therefore we stopped at a randome asian restaurant and at some chicken, rice and vegetables and Adeline could not keep her eyes or hands off our water. She must have been a thirsty girl. She just kept staring at our water following it as it was lifted from the table to our mouthes and then back down. Every time we offered her a sip of the ice cold water she would accept with eagerness. I wish she would gain enough dexterity and strength to be able to control a cup herself, because she much prefers it over the sippy cup and that way I could concentrate on feeding and drinking my self rather than constantly holding a cup for my sweet, sweet little lady.

Day 52

Adeline's Entertainment

Adeline doesn't watch TV...not that she wouldn't, just that we don't want to passively entertain our child and opening the flood gates of TV watching is a slippery slope. I know people who use it as a pass time for their child, chiming in "but they like it"...I'm sure they do, but you are the mom and you know what is best for your child...not the other way around and there are going to be many things in the futre (and I am sure even now) that you will not allow your child to do, even though they want to, because you know what is best. So we don't let Adeline watch TV just yet. This is a conscious choice The Husband and I made a while back and for now we are sticking to it. However we do let her watch the iTunes visualizer. We put on some of Adeline's favourite music and the visualizer will move with the music and Adeline is memorized. On a particularly grumpy day (one of the sick and teething days) of Adeline's the visualizer was the only thing that would calm her and thus giving tired mamma a break ;)

Day 51

Playing in Bed

Adeline has come to love the mobile that hangs above her crib. At first she was not so sure about it...she would watch it and listen to the music and try and grab the bugs that hang from it, but it didn't quite live up to her expectations of a really great toy. That is until she could actually reach the stuffed bugs that dangled above her, enticing her to reach out and touch them. It began when she could graze them with just the tips of her fingers and then every so often she would be able to grasp one of the lower hanging characters barley clutching it, but she would quickly lose her grip. Now she can tightly grab each and every bug and pull them down to her face for some good sucking and fling them around from side to side over her head. I am both happy and sad as I sit and watch her from the chair. Happy because I love to see her so excited and pleased and it is such a blessing that she is able to play by herself. Scared because I can see that at any moment one of these days she is going to tug so hard and fast that she rips a bug right off that mobile and that is going to be the end of Adeline's fun :(

Day 50

Say Cheese

Adeline was hamming up the camera today! Just look at that toothy grin. I LOVE IT! And although she has a beautiful, happy smile in this photograph she was far from happy today. Her sickness has subsided, but her upper teeth are rearing their ugly heads and Adeline is taking it out on those around her ;) Her top teeth have not yet cut through but we are guesstimating that any day now we will wake up to more teeth and a much happier child.

Day 49

Tummy Time

If you have ever read this blog before or you know Adeline at all you know that Adeline HATES tummy time. She despises it. Whenever I put her on her tummy she only lasts about 30 seconds before she is fussing and wants to be flipped back onto her back. But after our tummy time experiences (yes I did use the plural) today I think her opinion of being on her tummy is changing (or at least I hope it is). We had some early morning tummy time in bed this morning and then we went to school (where Adeline teaches) she had a good (and long) tummy time there as well. She is getting so much stronger and liking it so much more now...this makes me a happy mamma. And maybe one of these days she will even roll from her back onto her tummy.

Day 48

On The Mend

Now that Adeline is feeling better The Husband and I are getting what she had...but it so much easier to deal with a sick Mommy and Daddy than a sick baby! We even went out on a little date this afternoon. The whole family went to Good Earth Cafe and had some good eats and good drink. Adeline got to sit in the big girl highchair and shared a pannin with Mommy (she got some of the bread;) It was really nice to get out again...I feel like I have been cooped up for a week, oh wait I have been cooped up for a week, well almost.

Yesterday I did not have the mental space or energy to share about the night before last (thankfully last night was much, much better) because it was bad and it sucked. What I will say is I was up at least every 2 hours and had to change all Adeline's clothing and bedding in the middle of the night.

On a funnier note...a couple nights ago Adeline pooped in the bath! It was soooooo funny!

Day 46

Sick Baby

We have a sick and teething baby on our hands today. I know, I know she doesn't look that sick in the pictures, but really she is. She was so sick today. we both stayed in our PJs all day long! She has this croupy cough which sounds a little productive, but of course Adeline cannot yet clear any accumulating phlegm out. Adeline was an unusually needy baby today; she wanted to be held and walking around with me (or Daddy when he got home) for most of the day...I mentioned to a friend on Facebook who kindly asked me if I needed anything that all I need today is a nice long back massage (to ease the pain of holding A all day long). Included in this time she needed constant snuggling was nap time...she napped all of 20 minutes alone today, other than that she needed to be held and rocking just to get the rest she needed. But in good news, she ate solid food like a champ tonight (3oz of Carrots for dinner), but the bad of that is she refused to drink her milk at times today and is a little dehydrated because of this. All these trials today make for a very tired Mommy as well! Hopefully we have a better night tonight than we did last night.

Day 45

Kitty Love

Adeline loves Chloe a lot...but she LOVES Kitty-Witty. Kitty is the unknown. He won't often come and see Adeline, where Chloe will attack her with kisses every time she is sitting on the floor. Kitty rarely lets Adeline touch him and will scamper off as soon as he hears her cries of pain or even laughter. Each and every day Adeline adores Kitty from afar. She will watch intently he saunters back in forth enticing her. Often as he does this Adeline's arms will flap up and down with excitement as she hopes one day Kitty will come over so she can touch him, if only for a moment. It seems that just lately Kitty has been opening up to Adeline. He has started coming a little closer when she is sitting on the floor or he will come and rub up against my leg as I am holding her and even today as he lay in the sun Kitty let Adeline touch him just a little (and I didn't even have to hold him down). Thankfully Adeline is a very gentle baby, and she did not pull his hair too much and is learning how to pet rather than pull. I see a life-long relationship beginning to bud between the two of them!

Day 44

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Today was Daddy's Birthday!!! Adeline was super excited...she even wore a dress for the occasion (Daddy LOVES dresses, but Mommy never wears them). It was a good day. Kris' family came over for come coffee and brought his favourite Birthday desert, cheese cake!!! And it was delectable!

Snow Fun!

Along with a little party Daddy got to go outside and chip away at the skating rink we have for a sidewalk in front of our house. But at least the weather was perfect for some outside time! So after Adeline got up from her afternoon nap she and I went out to help, or shall I say supervise Daddy's work. Adeline was intrigued by the snow as well. She didn't move, nor make a noise; she just sat there taking it in whipping her head back and forth to watch the cars pass on by. It was funny to see her sit on the snow camouflaged from the rest of the world...only her cute as a button face poking out!

Day 43

Granma Time

Mommy and Daddy went out on a real date (one without the Baby) today...so Adeline and Granma got to have some one-on-one time. They had so much fun and did so many different things. When we got home Adeline told me all about the fun she had with Granma...drinking yummy milk, playing on the floor, jumping in the jumparoo, walking around, and talking and listening to each other; she hopes Granma will come over for another play date again ;)

Tomorrow is Daddy's birthday so Mommy wanted him to have a special date, which he has been asking and asking for...so I took him out for lunch and a movie (of his choosing). We went to see "The Fighter" which was actually pretty good.

Day 42

More Cheerios

Adeline likes to eat for entertainment now. If I am busy doing something and need a little more time and Adeline doesn't want to give it to me Cheerios are my best friend. I can put her in the high chair (which she doesn't usually enjoy) along with a few of this famous treat and Adeline will amuse herself. She had a gay o' time trying to pick them up and then if she finally does get them into her hands she will try her darndest to get them in her mouth. This is entertaining for the both of us...which kind of defeats me trying to get something done ;) Oh the joys of being a mother...the little thing bring me just joy and excitement these days!

Day 41

Yummy Treat

We introduced Adeline to a new snack today...Baby Mum Mums, Rice Rusks. She was quite interested in this new and fun snack, that she could eat all by her self. The whole family took a trip out to our local Starbucks and had a treat and some family time ;) Adeline had her Mum Mums and Mommy and Daddy had some coffee and a treat of their own. Adeline has already been indoctrinated into loving the atmosphere, company and treats at Starbucks.

Day 39

Yummy Toes

Adeline has finally gotten her toes into her mouth. I kept thinking that I must have the most unflexible baby on the block, because she just could not get her feet up that far. She could however, grab her feet and pull them toward her face, but just not close enough to get into her mouth. After I saw her get them up there an in her mouth last night I realized what her problem was...her legs were just not long enough. But now that they are, all she wants to do is play with her toes and put them in her mouth to taste them...Yum!

Day 38

Adeline Loves her Mum...and Dad too

I wish that she had been super fussy and very difficult today so that I could tell you I put that particular shirt on her to remind me of how much she loves me every time I look at her fussy face or hear her piercing screams. But that just wasn't the case today. She was a very nice baby today. She slept in until 9am, she had two hour and a half naps (without any help from Mommy or Daddy), she ate and played well and she is now cooing to herself as she falls asleep. Don't think I am vain or anything...I had actually dressed her in her I Love Dad shirt this morning, but after she ate this afternoon she was so drenched with spit-up she needed to be changed and of course when you put the I Love Dad shirt on it must be followed by the I Love Mum one ;) At least Daddy got to see her in the I Love Dad one after she got up from her late morning nap...he was so pleased!

Day 37

Messy Baby

Adeline is becoming a more and more involved eater, but more often than not she has continued to be a pretty clean eater, except today as you can see she was an exceptionally messy as she ate. She was quite enjoying her blueberry oatmeal this morning as you may see in the picture. She LOVES eating solid foods...she always wants to help Mommy get the food into her mouth. Today if she was not the one in control of the spoon then she had her hands up at her mouth shoveling any food that happened to squish out back into her mouth. Thanks Adeline!

More on Adeline's eating habits: She likes cinnamon and dill and she LOVES garlic!!! I have just started spicing thing up in the food department and from her reactions thus far I think Adeline really appreciated it. We don't eat bland food so I thought why should I force our daughter to...So I tell the husband, who is trained as a Chef, that I am going to add some garlic powder to Adeline's green bean, carrot and potato dinner and what does he say, "are you sure that is ok?" It just makes me laugh because he is all about the spices and seasonings when he cooks I thought for sure he would be gung-ho to get her going on some fun new tastes. I think that was just some of Daddy's protectiveness shining through ;)

Day 36

Happy Baby

Adeline had a great day today. She was happy and fun and playful all day. She even played all by herself for an hour and fifteen minutes while Mommy and Daddy did some basement cleaning. I was astonished! I didn't even know it was possible. She had some fun floor time, playing with her toys and then played in her jumper.

Day 35

Swimming

I know, I know this is not a picture of Adeline swimming, but I totally forgot to take a picture until I had her out of her swimming atire and into her warm, dry clothes. So the hanging out, watching mommy and daddy get dinner ready pictures will have to do. Today Adeline went swimming with her friends Jack, Hannah, Madison and Carter. She had a lot of fun splashing about in the pool and especially liked drinking the pool water. She is going to be a swimmer. Even now, at only 6 months, when I hold her up in the water she would move her arms and body in swimming-like motions, it was so funny to watch!

Day 34

Happy First Half Birthday

Today is Adeline's half birthday!!! We went to Whyte ave to have a coffee and take a nice walk and because Adeline is now 6 months old she sat in her stroller like a big girl! We walked and walked and when Adeline got tired she had a little sleep (soooo cute, see picture below), which she never does when there are things to see. Today Daddy came with us for our Whyte Ave walk, which made it even more special!

Everyone always said the time would fly by and it has...I was so surprised today when I thought about the fact that it was 6 months ago today that our little bundle of fun was brought into our lives.

Dear Adeline,

It really feels like just yesterday that I went into the hospital because I had not felt you move in over 8 hours. It feels like just yesterday when the nurses told me I would not be leaving the hospital without my baby. It feels like yesterday when I was stuck for days in a windowless room waiting for you to arrive. It feels like yesterday when our doctor said, "It's a Girl!" and Daddy eagerly ran over to see if you had a chin like mine (and you did). It feels like yesterday that we held you in our arms and kissed you for the very first time. It really feels like just yesterday when you joined our family and we fell in love with you! Adeline, we are so blessed to have as part of our family, as our first born child. We are excited to see you grow and learn and to see the wonderful woman you will become!

Day 33

Enjoy the Day

Adeline and Mommy went out for a lovely winter walk again today! The weather was MUCH warmer than it has been and we wanted to take advantage of that! We met up with Heather and Mackenzie again and walked Whyte ave...we love it there so much because the sidewalks are cleared to the pavement and the they are wide enough for two strollers side-by-side (with room for others to get by). Adeline was all bundled up with tights on and everything...we walked, we drank (Adeline some milk and Mommy a Latte) and we walked some more (and this time Adeline slept). Again good times were had by all!!!

Cheerios

Adeline had her first taste of this kid friendly, favourite today. It was sooooo funny to watch. She had much difficulty picking up the bite sized snack, as she has not yet developed the pincer grasp. When she did happen to get one in her grasp and take it up to her mouth she did not yet know to let go of them when they got there...again, so funny!

Another thing to take note of is the mop of hair this child is accumulating on her head!!! Wowzers! If only it would grow places other than the top, front part of her head ;)

Day 32

Daddy Love

Adeline has just started to grab either side of our face and pull us in to an open mouth, tongue out kiss...it is about the cutest thing ever! Today Daddy was the recipient of this precious gift!
